Only since a few years ago, upright vacuums were the recommended option for carpet, rugs and bare floors. Both upright and canister vacuums are now trying to bridge the gap. The upright vacuum is coming out with with small hoses and canister vacuums are geared up with mechanized brush accessories. Which one is better?
Where Upright Vacuums Excel
Getting an upright vacuum might be the best choice if your house has mainly surfaces of carpet or rugs, specifically thick ones. The turning brushes of the upright vacuum are much better at removing the dirt from thick rugs than canister vacuums.
Average Housing
For average housing, the cylinder vacuum has a clear advantage over the upright vacuum cleaner. Much more powerful, quiet, and less complicated to deal with, a cylinder vacuum cleans up faster and also with less annoyances.
Bare Floors?
If your home has mainly bare floors (ceramic tiles or wood), a mix of bare flooring as well as of carpet, or if you have a two-story residence, a canister vacuum would certainly be a better financial investment.
Ultimately, it is a matter of personal preference: some individuals are a lot more comfortable pushing an upright in front of them, others favor the ability to move a light weight wand.

I have been using Gary and the guys at Advanced Carpet Cleaning for over 20 years now and just wanted to say Thanks so much for a fantastic job once again! I had a couple of spills this time that I never thought would come out. Of course, Gary got them out and the carpets look great! We called Gary at Advanced, who met us at the home immediately following closing to clean the carpet and in our first week here we also hired Gary and team to clean our tile/grout and to do an ozone treatment to get rid of a cigarette smoke smell in our lower level. They not only did an amazing job and had our floors looking brand new, but completely rid our home of any smells and they were all so friendly and efficient. Thanks to Advanced we felt comfortable moving our family into our new home and making it our own. We would highly recommend Advanced and will definitely hire them again!
Elizabeth Kitchenmaster7/19/2022I can’t recommend Advanced Carpet Care enough. Their work is excellent and the prices are great too. They came with 2 men, which speeds things up. They also moved all my furniture out of the way so they could clean all the carpet. I typically have seen other companies just go around obstacles but these guys actually move stuff so they can be thorough. After they left, the carpets looked like new and smelled fresh.We have been putting off carpet cleaning because of the chemicals, but these guys use GREEN non-toxic solutions and they still leave you with really clean carpets! If they need a little more cleaning power they can use a mild detergent that is still very earth friendly.Lastly, they are a local business, and I prefer giving my money to the smaller service-minded business over a large corporation.
